Developer-owned VR startup New VR has just announced it’s teaming up with four major tech companies to help create the VR headset that will run on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
The partnership marks the first time developers and startups from both sides of the Atlantic will work together to make VR a reality.
“The technology is ready, the market is ready,” said David Riegel, co-founder and CEO of New VR.
“And it’s just a matter of time before this new generation of VR becomes the new norm.”
Riegel added that he and his team were excited to work with “one of the most well-known companies in the VR space” on the VR development and marketing platform.
“We are thrilled to partner with New VR, a leading developer-owned and angel-backed VR company,” said Michael Bostrom, CEO of Bostro Technologies, the company that helped develop the Oculus VR headset.
“Their track record of delivering compelling VR experiences for the masses is a testament to their leadership, and we look forward to working together with them to bring the best VR experience to the world.”
The four companies involved are: Oculus, Leap Motion, Oculus Connect, and Zenefits.
New VR has raised $6 million in Series A funding and is looking to expand into new markets and beyond.
The company recently partnered with Google to develop a new VR-friendly browser for Android.
